Golden Celebration at Reading Court

Marks 50 Years of Community Spirit
Reading Court in Tiddington was a hive of celebration on Saturday as the Masonic Housing Association (MHA) marked its 50th anniversary with a grand event attended by residents, dignitaries, and guests.
The housing complex, set in its own gardens on Tiddington Road, was originally established on land generously donated by local Freemason Tom Reading. Today, Reading Court continues to offer safe, affordable accommodation — not only for Freemasons and their families, but also for members of the wider local community.

Saturday’s golden jubilee proved a joyful occasion. As guests entered the event room, they were greeted by the mellow tones of live jazz, mingling with the hum of conversation and laughter. Around seventy Freemasons and guests joined residents in the celebration, including the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Tim Cox; the High Sheriff of Warwickshire, Karen Lynch MBE; and local councillors Kate Rolfe and Louisa Smith.

A highlight of the afternoon was a speech by MHA President Geoffrey Dearing, who thanked attendees for their support and announced a generous £10,000 donation towards the creation of the new Richard Wallis Suite — a mini gym designed to promote residents’ health and wellbeing.
“The Masonic Housing Association is proud of its ongoing commitment to both its residents and the wider community,” Mr Dearing said. “Reading Court stands as a testament to what can be achieved when charity and community come together.”

He was joined by Provincial Grand Master Philip Hall in presenting the donation, reinforcing Freemasonry’s long-standing tradition of charitable giving. Over the years, Freemasons have donated millions to good causes across the country — a legacy that continues at the local level, where many people have been supported with housing and community care.

The afternoon was not just a celebration of a milestone, but a reaffirmation of Reading Court’s founding values: dignity, community, and care.
